Finding Community Through Fashion
Have you ever heard people say they were looking for “their tribe” - or any variation of it? That’s because as human beings, we are wired for connection. Yes, even if you’re an introvert, lone wolf, or just prefer spending time on your own. There are varying degrees of connection people require, but finding your “tribe” or community benefits your health. Aren’t we fascinating creatures?!
So why would connection matter to a fashion brand, like HauteButch? I’m so glad you asked! Think about a time someone complimented your outfit, your hair or maybe even your new pair of boots. It felt good, right? (It’s ok to say yes!) Well, it’s little things like compliments from a stranger that can lead to conversations, coffee hangouts, who knows what else! What matters is in that moment, you made a connection...a connection based on fashion (hair totally counts because it has a huge impact on your overall look).
Not only that, you’re walking a little taller now. I can feel it! Receiving compliments, especially from strangers, boosts your self-confidence, which then makes it easier to strike up a conversation with someone new. Plus, seeing someone with the same style as you reinforces the idea that you’re not alone. Super comforting, right? Connections make the world go ‘round, and fashion is a common facilitator.
Clothing is an expression of who you are, and HauteButch Founder, CEO and Designer, Karen intimately understands the power an outfit can hold. Her brand caters to the queer community by creating a space of inclusion, supporting your right to be you, and striving to help you feel comfortable and confident every single day.
She’s seen the transformation of customers who finally put on clothing that truly captures who they are. They stand a little taller, look forward instead of down, and they just radiate good vibes and confidence. It’s magnetic. People are drawn to the radiance surrounding them. They want to feel it too. Can you blame them? Heck no, you’re awesome! Now they know it too! And maybe seeing you out and proud, living your truth, will encourage them to do the same.
So how can we find our fashion community? Social media is a great place to start. Follow people or brands who inspire you to be the best version of yourself on Instagram, TikTok or Facebook. Join groups online, like Butch Fashion, Style & Care, that combine community and fashion.
Look for local meetup groups if you prefer face-to-face interaction. Or start in your local community. Look for stores you like and venture inside, or meet people through local resources - like school, LGBT centers, etc. Set the intention to make connections with like-minded people. Create your safe place with people who are unapologetically living in their skin, and express your true self. Be the you that you want to be.
