7 Secret Tips for a Flawless Outfit

So you’ve got a closet full of clothes but no outfits, and you’re probably wondering how that’s even possible!! You’re definitely not alone. Often times we buy items we like without really conceptualizing how we will wear them. Or maybe we wear what is clean or what fits at the moment.
Never again!! It’s time to start loving your wardrobe!

1) Create Balance

There are two types of essentials in your closet...or there should be! These are basics and special pieces, and you need BOTH to create the perfect outfit.
A “special” piece would include items in bold colors, patterns, or any clothing item that tends to get attention. Basics include jeans, basic tops or tees, items in your favorite color, or solid and neutral items. These are the foundation of your outfit because they are so versatile.
The key to creating a flawless outfit is creating balance between your basic and special pieces. Try combining solid, neutral colored pants with a fun patterned top - like flannel or geometric patterns. Finish it off with the right shoes and accessories. Don’t worry; shoes and accessories are coming up soon!!

2) Make Sure it Fits

You may think this is obvious, but it is one of the more challenging parts of creating the perfect outfit, especially when you’re used to buying clothes that aren’t made for YOUR body. Thankfully brands like HauteButch ARE made for your body 😉.

Take the time to go to a fitting. Stylists can help figure out what fits, and a proper fit is sooooo flattering! Having said that, find what fit works for you, not anyone else. If you’re not comfortable in form-fitting clothing, then make sure you share that information with the stylist, or make sure the fit isn’t “too tight” when you’re out shopping. Also, if you keep adjusting your outfit.... change!

3) KIS (Keep it Simple)

Keep your look simple. This goes back to creating the balance between basics and special items. Too much of one or the other will make your look unbalanced – either too plain or too busy. Also, make sure your clothes are ironed, clean and not too worn out. When you notice a hole, it’s time to move on!

4) Good Shoes Take You Places

This is where things can get a little tricky, especially if you aren’t a shoe connoisseur. As always, we’ve got you covered! The first thing to remember when picking out shoes is: make sure YOU like them. Everyone is going to have an opinion about EVERYTHING, especially your shoes.
Color coordinating your shoes as well as wearing the right style can make or break any outfit. Black shoes are great for outfits mainly consisting of shades of (you guessed it) black, such as gray and charcoal. Neutral colors will (of course) go with other neutrals. For example, shades of brown are great for blues, beige, and gray.
Once you have the color scheme down, you’ll need to check to make sure the style of the outfit matches the shoes you want to wear. You wouldn’t wear sneakers with a tux now would you? (Unless we’re talking about Chucks at a wedding, the proper answer is no). Here’s a quick breakdown:
Street: Slip-ons, sneakers, loafers
Casual: sneakers, boots, dress shoes, loafers, derbies, or lace-up oxfords
Dress: loafers, monks, brogues, derbies, oxfords or dress boots
Insider tip: lace-up brogues are the most versatile shoe because they can be dressed up or dressed down.

5) It’s All in the Details

Accessories may seem small, but they have a significant place in every outfit. This is always the hardest part of the outfit for me!
Let’s start off by outlining which accessories have the greatest impact: jewelry, watches, hats, belts, wallets and (last but not least) ties! Jewelry includes your bracelets, necklaces and rings.
Bracelets and rings are starting to become sexy accessories for any occasion. When selecting your jewelry, please don’t mix and match metals! If you’re wearing a leather or beaded necklace, by all means wear a gold or silver ring/necklace. HOWEVER, if you’re wearing white gold or silver, don’t combine those with rose gold or yellow gold!
When it comes to watches, there are very few things to consider: functionality, style and fit. There are all sorts of watches to choose from – automatic, mechanical, analog, digital (which includes smart watches), and each one has a different look + functionality. Pick the one that’s best suited for YOU and your outfit. This means it’s time to ditch the watch that’s overly bulky, doesn’t really have a function, or is too big for your wrist.
Hats are the PERFECT way to take your style to the next level. They are more of a statement piece, so make sure you aren’t overwhelming your outfit by adding an awesome, new hat. Remember, keep it simple and create balance!
Wallets and belts are commonly overlooked as there is a misconception that these accessories don’t matter. As with shoes, make sure you color coordinate and match the style of your outfit – at the very least with your belt! Your wallet falls under the “personal preference” category, but a good rule of thumb is to find a wallet that is affordable, sustainable and fashionable.
Ties aren’t a necessity for every outfit, but they are a great accessory for work, date night or special events – like meeting the family. Find ties that suit your style, but also “fit” properly, which means don’t wear a tie that’s too thick for your body (or too thin either). Bowties are a super fun option when you want to shake things up!

6) Quality Matters

So, you’re on a budget, but you also want to look flawless. Great! You can do both! While you can’t make “good” things cheaply, you CAN buy the best quality for your budget. Some companies, like HauteButch, even offer payment plans like AfterPay to help increase the quality of your wardrobe without destroying your budget. You should check it out!

7) Authenticity is BEAUTIFUL

Finally, don’t be a stickler for the “rules” of fashion. Be Creative. Break the rules Wear what you feel confident and comfortable in.
When you’re confident, everything looks better. You stand a little taller, smile a little brighter and exude confidence. On the other hand, when you don’t feel like the best version of yourself, it’s noticeable. So, which would be better?? That’s right...wearing what feels good to you!
Confidence + Creativity are KEY components of a flawless outfit. Have fun with your styles, get inspired.
It's all about feeling “this is me” ... a brilliant version of “ME!”
